our history

Verboom Grinders was established is 1992 as a partnership between Cees and Jim Verboom. A Haybuster (now Duratech) HD10 Tub Grinder and an International truck with a Prentice 150 loader was purchased to shred bark mulch for Nova Tree Company. It was the first industrial tub grinder in the Atlantic Canada that was available for contract grinding on a full time basis. In 1993 the grinder spent five weeks working in Grand Falls, Newfoundland. All through the 90's additional work, mostly making bio-mass (or hog) fuel began to surface.

In 1998, Luke Verboom finished his formal education and joined his grandfather - Cees and his father Jim in the business. By 2001, Cees retired again and Jim and Luke incorporated the business and the growth continued.

A second Duratech HD 10 purchased to enable the company to supply more dependable service. Soon afterwards, a Komatsu PC200 Excavator was added. Then with Hurricane Juan, the company expanded rapidly from a one man operation to six operators, a new Duratech 3010 tub grinder and a second Komatsu PC200. Also a stump harvester (a Shear) mounted to a third Komatsu PC200 was added to the company to split oversize wood and stumps so they can be shredded more effectively.

The company currently operates with 5 full time operators, 3 grinders, 5 excavators, 1 highway tractor and self-unloading trailer, 2 truck mounted loaders and 1 off road truck.
